

It is with deep love and gratitude that we celebrate the life of Helen R. Witten (Slater), who passed away peacefully at the age of 98 on Friday, August 22nd, 2025. She was preceded in death by her husband Wilburn E. Witten, son Tim A. Witten, Mother Florence B. Dean, sister Aline Posante, and sister Kathy D. Monzon.
Her survivors are granddaughters Ashley W. Baessler (Wesley); Brittany W. Castles (Todd), four great grandchildren Leah Castles, Harper Castle, Henry Witt Baessler, and Hailey Baessler; Daughter-in-law Donna Witten; Niece Charline Posante, and four great nephews Tony, Craig, Christopher, and Stephen.
She lived a life full of wonder and discovery. Her passion for traveling took her to places near and far. A devoted fan of the Kentucky Derby, she never missed a chance to celebrate the thrill of the race, often donning her favorite jewelry and sharing the excitement with family and friends.
Above all, Helen Witten found her greatest joy in her family. She adored watching her great-grandchildren grow, always offering a warm smile, a sweet treat, and words of encouragement. Her bond with her granddaughters was especially strong, filled with laughter, shared stories, and countless treasured moments that will live on in their hearts forever.
Known for her sweet tooth and her sweeter disposition, she brought light and love to everyone she met. Her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering love will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
A celebration of her life will be held from 11 am -2 pm on Thursday, August 28, 2025 at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Rd. Louisville, KY 40218. A funeral service will be conducted at 2pm following the visitation. A private burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to Wreaths Across America, in honor of her enduring love for her country and her commitment to honoring those who served. Supporting this cause reflects her spirit of remembrance and gratitude, values she held close throughout her life. Lastly, she wanted a grateful “thank you” expressed to all friends, Ambassador staff at The Forum, and those who helped and cared for her.
