Brooks earned an undergraduate degree at Western and then a graduate degree from Vanderbilt’s Peabody School. Brooks spent some four decades serving as a teacher at Okolona High School; principal at Southern High School; and; as an assistant superintendent for Jefferson County. Brooks was a life-long member of Cooper Memorial United Methodist Church, where he served as treasurer and chair of the Board. Brooks is survived by the former Lucille Schaaf, his beloved wife of 68 years; his daughter Peggy Mouser and husband Steve; his son Terry and wife Judy; seven grandchildren; and, eight great grandchildren with a ninth on the way. As an alternative to flowers, the family suggests either a gift to the Kentucky Youth Advocates to honor Irvin’s legacy to the children or a gift to Cooper Memorial United Methodist Church to honor Irvin’s faith journey. We celebrate his life of service, witness and love.
A celebration of Irvin’s life will be conducted at 12 noon, Thursday, December 20, 2012 in the chapel of Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Rd. with interment to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
Visitation will be 4-8 pm Wednesday, December 19, 2012.
