

Jan was predeceased by her parents, William E Bland (Marilyn Bland, deceased), and Pallie R George Bland.
Jan was a graduate of Seneca High School Class of 1974, where she participated in Drill Corps. Jan also participated in cheer leading in the 8th grade at St. Martha. Jan spent her entire 50+ career in the property & casualty insurance claims field, first as a co-op student while in high school, working her way up through the ranks to become a highly regarded property and casualty third party claims adjuster. Jan was also a 26 year Breast Cancer Survivor.
Jan was a loving soul with a big heart. She loved to laugh. She always opened up her home to others and had a welcoming demeanor about her. She loved being with her children and grandchildren, whether it was a soccer game, dance recital, band performance, or wrestling match, etc. Jan devoted her life to God and her family. Her husband, Jim’s work took her family to live in other states including SD and AZ and she still would stay in contact with her family and friends. Jan adored her 3 cats who brought much comfort and companionship.
Jan is survived by her children Julia Hancock Payne, Jamie Leigh Hancock (Dan Hickey) and Joan Marie Hancock Moore. Her loving husband James Hancock passed away on March, 14, 2024. They will be joined in life ever-after, after 50 years of marriage. Grandchildren Heather Payne Schulz (Jared), Dustin Payne, Caden Schmitt, Ashleigh Taylor, Elizabeth Moore & Scott Moore; Great Grandchildren Maverick Schutz and bonus Great Grandchildren Avory Hickey, Luna Mathis, Devina Mathis, and Nova Mathis.
Jan is survived by her sister Debra Bland Copeland (Jack, deceased) and Billy Bland (Susan): Step-siblings: Herby, Michael (Becca), Gary, Gregg (Irene Prandoni) Brodarick & Pam Amon (Drew, deceased) along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Jan loved traveling with family, whether on a cruise to Alaska or in the Riviera Maya, trips to Hawaii, boating, motorcycling, and visiting family in South Dakota and Kentucky. She and Jim took a special religious pilgrimage to Medjugorje and Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Also grieving her loss are her lifelong friends who were “sisters by love”: Terri Potter Schlader, Peggy Murray, and Donna Wells Bramer.
Visitation will be held January 6, 2025 from 4pm-8pm at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Funeral Home, 4400 Bardstown Rd, Louisville, Ky. Funeral Mass will be held at 10am on January 7, 2025 at St. Martha Catholic Church, 2825 Klondike Lane, Louisville, with burial following at Calvary Cemetery, 1600 Newburg Rd, Louisville, KY.
