“Teddi”, as she was affectionately known to family and friends, was born February 16th, 1930 to Myrtle Harned Gray and Clifford B. Gray in Breckinridge County, Kentucky.
She was raised on a farm in a one room cabin style home.
She graduated from Irvington High School in 1948.
Anxious for the big city life, she moved to Louisville and worked at Dupont Chemical Co. where she met and married her husband, Mr. Robert C. Young in 1951.
Teddi was a stay at home Mom until her children got older, then returned to the work force, and ultimately retired from Bacon’s / Dillard’s Dept store in 1991.
Tragedy struck in 1979 when she became a widow at the age of 48 following the untimely death of her beloved Husband and father of her children.
She remained single for the remainder of her life.
Her interests included visiting with her children, grandchildren, decorating and maintaining her home and flower garden.
She loved her home in the Lynnview subdivision, where she lived for more than 60 years.
She is survived by her 2 children: Kevin R.Young, M.D. (Susan) of Lake Charles, LA and Karen K.Young, R.N. (Mick) of Auburn, Ca; 4 grandchildren: Robert W.Young (Kim) of La Marque, Tx, Margaret Young Carter, M.D. (Ryan) of Lake Charles, LA, Ashley M. Dawson of Raleigh, N.C., James Grant Dawson (Krystal) of Savannah, Ga; and 5 greatgrandchildren: Lily Grace Young and Olivia Marie Young of La Marque, Tx., Claire Brooks Carter of Lake Charles, LA, Crew James Dawson of Savannah, Ga, and Silas Weston Carter of Lake Charles, LA, Brother in Law: Jay Maitland Young, PhD of Chicago, Ill. Nephew: Mike Board of Sheridan, Wy.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 20 at 2:00 pm at Arch L. Heady in Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Rd, Louisville Ky with burial to follow in Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Sunday, June 19.
