I'm so sorry for the loss. I remember Jeff on the football field of DeSales High in the early to mid 80s when I was a player. He was very passionate,  yet a player's coach. He loved coaching and being part of the wins and losses no matter how significant the game.

Jeff (Effus, JJ, Tonto), rest in peace, my friend!
Jeff and I met not long after the family moved to Kentucky when he was perhaps in 4th or 5th grade. From that time, through high school at DeSales, my guess is that we were together or had contact more than 90% of those days. So much of our young years were together, be that playing in the neighborhood, going to Nolin, playing football at St. Athanasius and DeSales, a trip to Florida, going to the track with his parents, going out or hanging around with other friends (not listed here but remembering you all too), going on double dates with girls, shooting guns, fishing, so much! Simply put, Jeff will always have significant impact on my life, good impact I add!
Jeff loved the Minnesota Vikings, was a great fan of Muhammad Ali and boxing, and some of the first things we in the neighborhood heard from him as youngsters was how much he loved hockey from his younger days in PA and MN.
From the earliest times in our boyhood, Jeff regularly revealed himself as one with character, fortitude, and a toughness, one who was never afraid to face whatever adversity or real life challenge a person might encounter. In his adult life with the Sheriff's Department, I know that Jeff demonstrated this. Jeff was mature and wise, took time to learn about what he had passion or interest in, and Jeff was always a reliable and responsible friend for all the years I spent near him.
Cindy (Terry, Jackie, and family), Rick (Diane and family), my deepest condolences. Same for all of Jeff's friends.
Yes , as Jon stated, it was not uncommon for Jeff to be thought as the brother of my siblings, in the other Jones family, instead of me; and, that was always OK and quite understandable.
Jeff, there is no way to easily recount the many many many memories we created in our young lives. Thank you. Again, rest in peace, my friend, my pal!

I used to be asked a lot if Jeff was one of my older brothers.  To be honest, as a kid, I myself wondered why I had a brother who lived down the street from the rest of us.  That may explain why he took me on as a project by being my position coach at DeSales.  My best memory of that year came against St. X when due to a few injuries, Coach Don Hettich asked Jeff who was his next man up.  When he replied with my name, Jeff said Don told him "you're fired".  Perhaps his job was saved after we hung on for the win in spite of my taking the field.  

So many memories standout like getting to see him "play" point guard in pick-up basketball, hear him tell Rodney Dangerfield jokes, and just making any occasion enjoyable.  Jeff seemed to have many lifetimes of memories in a life that ended up too short.  I'll miss the opportunities to share them with him, but know that I will relive them with others for all time.  

Effus  was such a wonderful guy.   Most likely the most non famous-famous comedian I’ve ever met.  
The jokes and the nicknames he gave people. The way he could describe how the party was going to be.  He’d say” there’s gonna be hot  chicks everywhere , beer flowing,  great music, dancing and by the way Little Goots you’re not invited”. Then he’d laugh that contagious laugh.  
He loved to have a great time and if Jeff came to the party or the other Jones family’s  lake camp.  It was sure to be over the top fun.   
I’ll miss hearing him call me Little Goots.

Just heard of Jeff's death two days ago.  We were room mates our freshman year playing football at EKU.  We had some great times our first year in college.  Those are memories I will never forget.  We lost touch when he left EKU during his sophomore year due to a shoulder injury.  I would bump into him every couple of years when I lived in Louisville and we would catch up.  Once I moved away to Florida we never saw each other again.  It is extremely sad to see someone die so young with so much life yet to live
