He was a proud WWII Army veteran, a retired employee of the Bell South Telephone Company after 35 years of service, and he was a member of the Telephone Pioneers.
Mr. Jewell is survived by his wife of 65 years, Margaret Northern Jewell; son, Johnny Jewell (Becki); daughters, Sandy Basham (Charles), Darlene Cahoe, and Kathy Kendall (Stoney); a brother, Nolan Jewell; grandchildren, Jesse Basham, Amy Glover, Keri Mattingly, Sandi K. Basham, Guy Kiernan, Sonia Harley, and Cindi Kiernan; 16 great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog and constant companion Chase. He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Florence Jewell, and a brother, Melvin Jewell.

His funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Thursday at Heady-Hardy Funeral Home, followed by burial at Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 2-8 pm Wednesday.
