He retired from GE Appliances with more than 30 years of service, working predominantly in Refrigeration.
Jim served as a medic assistant in the U.S. Air Force and graduated from the University of Cincinnati with an apprenticeship degree in mechanical engineering.
He prioritized spending time with his family and enjoyed traveling (he and his wife visited nearly all 50 states and Canada), particularly to Sebring, Florida, in their motorhome for the winter months, along with Barren River Lake, Myrtle Beach, Dale Hollow Lake, and many other campgrounds in Kentucky and other states. He also traveled throughout much of Europe during his time in the service.
He loved cars, trucks, campers, boats and motorcycles, acquiring nearly 80 over his lifetime, which gave him immense joy. He never encountered a project he wouldn't attempt with his trusty "vanilla" folders at his side, from making stilts and building a clubhouse, boat and camper, to constructing additions to his and his sons' and daughter's homes.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Eddie "Kate" Filer; son, Terry Filer (Dee); daughter, Debbie; son, Tim (Mary Jo); grandchildren, Christina and Jacob Filer and Hope McCarty; and great-grandchildren, Kate and Calvin Larson.
He was a gift to his family, who loved him dearly for his guidance, kindness, ever-present sense of humor (loud, off-key birthday songs), and the way he was always there for them.
Visitation for Jim will occur on Friday, May 24th from 11a.m. - 2p.m. at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Funeral Home, 4400 Bardstown Road Louisville, Kentucky 40218.
Jim will be entombed privately within Resthaven Memorial Park.
