John was born August 12, 1935 in Burlington, VT to Claude and Helen Middleton and was a graduate of Syracuse University School of Business, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree. He spent his entire career in the field of transportation/distribution, retiring from Johnson Controls, Inc. as Director of Distribution Services for the Automotive Group. John was a member of Zeta Psi fraternity, a Mason for over 50 years, a member of Springdale Presbyterian Church, and a volunteer reader for several organizations, providing radio reading services for the visually impaired.
John was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Kathryn Middleton and Jeannette Ball.
He is survived by his wife and best friend of 60 years, Serena, daughter Lisa (David) Dierken of Louisville, sons Eric (Barbara) Middleton of Reno, NV and Marc Middleton of Orlando FL, and 6 grandchildren – Jacob, Max, Helena, Marena, Eliza and Jack.
John was the rock of his family, someone we all went to for sound and practical advice, and he will be dearly missed. Special thanks for the loving care of his Hosparus team and the Inpatient Care Center. Visitation will be Friday, September 28, at Arch L. Heady 7 Son at Westport Village, 7410 Westport Road, from 2 to 8 pm, private funeral to be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Arthritis Foundation (www.Arthritis.org), a disease that he valiantly fought for 40+ years.
