Born on January 4, 1944, in Laporte, Indiana, John lived a life full of energy, dedication, and joy.
After graduating from high school, John served proudly in the United States Marine Corps. His military service instilled a strong sense of discipline and commitment that guided him throughout his life.
Following his time in the Marines, John built a successful career as a business owner in the furniture and bedding industry. Over more than four decades, he earned respect for his integrity and work ethic—qualities that shaped the businesses he led and the communities he touched.
John’s devotion to family was unwavering. He is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy Campisano Otter; daughter Alison Otter; sons Billy Otter (Laura), John D. Otter, and Alex Campisano; grandchildren Logan, Spencer, Parker Otter, and Kylie McElhaney; sisters Cathy Manguson (Bob) and Carole Brock.
He was preceded in death by sister and brother-in-law Connie and Jack Smith and brother-in-law Chester Brock.
John embraced life with enthusiasm. He completed numerous mini marathons and remained active well into later years through regular workouts. He found great joy in fishing and boating, cooking for loved ones, traveling widely, training dogs with care, dancing to favorite tunes, and proudly supporting his children’s and grandchildren’s activities.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff of units 6E and 4P at Baptist Health Louisville and Hosparus Health for their exceptional care during John's final days. Special appreciation goes to Dr. Furlow and Dr. Will Johansen for their steadfast support.
It was John’s expressed wish that there be no funeral or memorial and that his body be cremated.
In honor of John’s generous spirit and love for animals, donations may be made to any animal rescue organization, Hosparus of Louisville or the Baptist Health Foundation.
John’s vibrant presence will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him.
