John R. Tompkins passed away peacefully on June 1, 2013 with his family and friends by his side.He was a beloved son, brother and uncle and a friend to all who knew him. John was the restaurant manager for Flanagan's Ale House in Louisville where he enjoyed serving good food to his customers and working with his friend's and colleagues. He loved the outdoors and helping others. He will be missed by all that were fortunate enough to know him.
John is survived by his parents, John "Jack" and Betty J. Tompkins; a sister, Geralyn T. Groves (Coleman); a brother, Paul Tompkins; two nieces, Mary Arden Groves and Emory Helen Mize; and his companion and friend, Maryanne Searfoss Denny.
A celebration of John's life will be conducted Thursday at 10 AM at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road with burial in Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 2-8 on Wednesday at the funeral home.
