Our hearts are heavy as we share that Joseph Kempf left us on January 6, 2026, with his mother, Barbe, by his side. Joseph was a bright light in our lives, remembered by all who loved him for his quick humor, vibrant spirit, and a sense of kindness and generosity that knew no bounds. He moved through the world with an animation and energy that stayed with everyone he met.
Joseph was a true polymath with a restless, creative spirit; one never knew what he was going to pursue next, only that he would do it with his whole heart. Whether he was dominating on the tennis court, performing magic, inventing, or taking the stage for stand-up comedy, Joseph lived as a perpetual entrepreneur of life. His professional journey began with the energy of downtown Louisville, where he worked as a Pedi-Cab driver around 4th Street Live—a role that perfectly suited his animated
personality.
In college, Joseph followed his dual fascinations with the human mind and the arts, majoring in Psychology and Acting. These were more than just subjects to him; they became his toolkit for life. He was a lifelong student of the mind, reading insatiably about empowerment and psychology. Through meditation, positive thinking, and the practice of gratitude, Joseph achieved something truly profound: he learned to love himself deeply and walked through the world with a resilience that refused to let others pull him down.
When he wasn’t dreaming up a new business or practicing a monologue, Joseph found joy in the simple things. He loved the rhythm of rap music, the levity of a funny movie, and the companionship of animals—especially his beloved dogs, Reef and Jude.
Joseph leaves behind his mother, Barbe; his Aunt Susan; cousins Nicholas Teale and Tracy Grizzle; Uncles Mike Childers (Annette), Gary Frost (Mary), Jackie Frost, and Jerry Frost; and many cousins born of the Frost brothers. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Kempf; his grandparents, Bob and Shirley Mascharka, and Ernest Kempf and Jean Frost; his Aunt Carol Keith; Uncles Philip Frost (Angie) and Kenny Wayne Frost (Kim); and cousins Shawn Childers, Aaron Childers, and "Little Kenny" Frost.
Celebration of Life Family and friends are invited to celebrate Joseph’s life on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at Arch L. Heady & Son at Westport Village (7410 Westport Rd, Louisville, KY 40222).
Interment Joseph will be laid to rest on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Cave Hill Cemetery. He will be buried in the Mascharka family plot, next to his beloved Aunt Carol Keit
