He was born in Paducah, KY on September 4, 1924, the son of the late Roy B. Toon and Mary Lola Toon.
Joe was a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps in Okinawa and the Pacific during World War II and was a retired machinist for Naval Ordnance. He was an avid UofL basketball, football and Cincinnati Reds baseball fan. He dearly loved bowling and continued in the senior league at Ken Bowl until November, 2009. Joe most loved spending time with his family and beloved grandchildren and was a loving and giving dad and grandpa.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Dorothy White Toon.
He is survived by his loving daughter and son-in-law, Marcia and Steve Bishop; grandchildren, Nick, Megan and Tim Bishop; brother Aaron Dalton; sisters, Vicki Curtis, Kay Carlton Russell (Joe) and Dot Rapp (Tom).
His Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, August 27, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Chapel, 4400 Bardstown Road, with burial to follow in Valley Cemetery, Taylorsville, KY. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Thursday.
