Joyce Lee Frantz

She was born in Jefferson County, KY on June 28, 1928, the eldest child of Ancel "Woody" Hultz and Anna S. Kramer. She was a 1946 graduate of Atherton High School, after which she worked at Southern Bell Telephone Company for 5 years. In June 1948, Joyce married G. Rodney Frantz. They became parents to two sons, Bruce Rodney and Kent David, who were Joyce's pride and joy.

Joyce's passions included her beloved family (both ancestors and descendants -- she had a keen interest in genealogy) and a lifelong love of music. She attended Third Lutheran Church, where she was very involved. She was a pianist, an organist, a choir director, and sang in her church choir for 55 years. She was also a piano teacher, bringing the gift of musical education to dozens of students over the years. She was a gardener and a photographer, and was always ready to travel. After retirement, Joyce and Rod took many trips, including all 50 states, Canada, Mexico and Central America. Their favorite destination was Hawaii.

Joyce was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Rod, her son Bruce, an infant son, her sister Dorothy Hall, and her brother Billy Hultz. She is survived by her son Kent (Janet), her daughter-in-law Vicki, four grandchildren: Johanna Frantz Ellison (Matt), Maria Frantz Abernathy (Don), Natalie Frantz Wogerman (Bryan) and Eric Frantz (Kristin), and eight great-grandchildren: Rachael and Connor Ellison, Charlotte Frantz, Grace and George Abernathy and Theo, Luke and Henry Wogerman. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Martha Hultz, and beloved nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on April 24, 2025 at Arch L. Heady - Cralle Funeral Home at Westport Village. The funeral service was held at Our Savior Lutheran Church on April 25, 2025, with burial following at Cave Hill Cemetery.
