Kenneth Lee Howell of Shelbyville, passed away on Friday, April 27, 2018. Born on August 23, 1940 he was the second of twelve children born to Thomas Kenneth and Estelle Howell. Ken graduated from Manual High School in 1959 and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and retired with the rank of Master Sergeant in 1981. During his deployment to Japan, he met the love of his life and married Setsuko “Sets” Yahagi. After his retirement from the Air Force, Ken worked at Great Lakes Naval Station and Motorola in Illinois, retiring from there in 2006. He and Sets then relocated to Shelbyville, KY.
Kenneth was a life long member of VFW Post 1170 and a Kentucky Colonel.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Carolyn Mershon and Deborah Rubino and his brother, Gary Howell.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Setsuko; his son, Matt (Barb) Howell and daughter, Sandy (Mike) Reitman; grandchildren, Joe (Valerie) Reitman, Mieko (Nick) Templeton, Emiko Reitman (fiancé, Blake Burgmier), David Trinidad (Britni) and Joe Trinidad, 5 great-grandchildren, 8 siblings and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation is Tuesday, May 1, 2018 from 3 -8 pm at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville, KY.
A celebration honoring Ken will be held on Wednesday, 12 pm at the funeral home followed by
entombment.
