Kit Sharon Devine, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on May 26, 1948, in Louisville, Kentucky, she was the cherished daughter of the late Tom and Alma Welker. Kit's life was a testament to her unwavering dedication to her family, her profession, and her faith.
She is survived by her two adoring children, son Brad Devine (Audrey) and daughter Dana Devine-Brown (Jarrett), who carry forward her legacy of love and compassion. Kit was a proud "Nana" to five grandchildren: Liam, Lochlan, and Parker Devine, and Sanford and Shepherd Brown, with whom she shared countless special moments and one-on-one adventures that will forever be etched in their hearts.
Kit was a devoted eldest sister to Connie French (Steve), Marsha Metzger (Bill), and Beth Eberenz (David), and she leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews who will remember her warmth and kindness.
A charter member of River Valley Christian Church, Kit also found a spiritual home at Northeast Christian Church, where she volunteered her time and talents. Her faith was a guiding light in her life, and she led and hosted women's Bible study groups for many years, nurturing the spiritual growth of those around her.
Kit's professional journey was marked by her remarkable 57-year career as a nurse, during which she touched the lives of countless patients. A proud graduate of Fern Creek High School, she earned her Associate of Science degree from Western Kentucky University in 1968, followed by a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, a Master of Science in Nursing, and a Doctor of Science in Nursing, all from Bellarmine University. As a faculty member at Bellarmine, she inspired future generations of nurses with her passion for healthcare and her commitment to excellence. She was a valued member in leadership of numerous nursing organizations including March of Dimes national advisory council and an elected fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
In addition to her academic achievements, Kit served as President and Co-Owner of the Louisville Reproductive Center, where she found profound purpose in guiding and supporting patients through their journeys with infertility. Her compassion and expertise made a lasting impact on many families.
Outside of her professional life, Kit enjoyed playing bridge and traveling to Ireland, where she delighted in tracing her family heritage. She was a lifelong novice at golf, but always played fast and looked good, as she would say. She continued and loved lifelong learning. She volunteered her time to providing women's care at Mercy Clinic in Shelbyville post-retirement.
Kit Sharon Devine will be remembered for her boundless love, her dedication to her family and community, and her unwavering faith. Her legacy will live in the hearts of all who knew her, and she will be deeply missed.
