

LaVerne R. Mattick, 97, of Louisville, passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2022. She was born in Louisville on January 15, 1925 to the late Joseph and Teresa Ruffra. LaVerne was a woman of deep faith. She was one of the founding members of the Church of the Epiphany where she started the Hospitality Committee and summer VBS programs and was an Acolyte and Alter Bread Baker. She was a very talented seamstress and proudly worked at Gitting Jenny and Rodeo Drive. She stayed active with the Silver Sneakers YMCA swim group five days a week for 45 years and also belonged to other various groups including the Silver Sages, Red Hats and the Christian Women’s Club.
In addition to her parents, LaVerne is preceded in death by her first husband, Malcolm Williams and her siblings, Joe Ruffra, Vic Ruffra and Mildred Rueff.
Left to cherish her memory is her beloved husband, Joe Davis Mattick; children, Tom (Bonnie) Williams, Carol (David) Block, Jan Salyer, Barbara Harner and Bonnie (Mark) Bayers; grandchildren, David Block, Tiffany Goulet, Regina Taute, Jesse Harner, Tyler Bayers, M.D. and Brad Bayers; 6 great grandchildren; 1 great-great granddaughter; a sister, Pat McGrath and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family members.
A service to celebrate LaVerne’s life will take place at 1:30 pm on Friday, July 8, 2022 at Arch L. Heady at Westport Village (7410 Westport Road) with burial to follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery. The family welcomes guests for visitation prior to the service from 10:00 am-1:30 pm at the funeral home.
