

Lou was born in Louisville on June 30,1936, and was the son of Louis and Florence Vassie, growing up in Germantown. He was a graduate and president of duPont Manual High School Class of 1954. After meeting the "Love of his life", Elizabeth "Liz" Worth, they were married October 8, 1955 at Saint Vincent De Paul Catholic Church.
Lou created his own legacy through his love of baseball. Lou was a second baseman known for "turning a quick double play". His 14-year career began in 1949 with the Crowners Baseball Louisville Amateur Baseball Federation. and his legacy continued:

Lou was a devoted husband and father of two girls, Brenda Michelle Kendall (who passed away on December 04, 2010) and Kim Letitia Butler; along with one granddaughter, Telia Marie Butler.
Lou loved his family and always enjoyed going to the beach and having fun in the sun. He was always supportive of his three girls, whether it was cheerleading, track, twirling, or jump rope competitions. He was always there as a faithful and caring Dad with a wonderful sense of humor and plenty of laughs. Lou and Liz were a match made in heaven. His favorite pastime was dancing the night away with Liz at the German American Club and Moose Club (even winning a dance contest at the Kona Kai Disco Lounge). They always enjoyed sailing on cruises of many destinations. Lou loved working with young kids and teaching the skills of baseball. He would always be the positive mentor yet taught with inspiration and high expectations. He was a true fan of the Kentucky Wildcats and never missed a basketball game.
Lou worked for Chevron USA for 24 years as a Territorial Manager. His tireless work in reorganizing the duPont Manual Alumni Association brought great pride to him. He was inducted in the duPont Manual Hall of Fame in 1997.
Lou was preceded in death by his parents; William and Florence Vassie of Louisville, Kentucky; his daughter Brenda Michelle Kendall; and his wife of 57 years, Elizabeth Marie. He is survived by his daughter, Letitia, and son-in-law, Clint Butler, and granddaughter, Telia Marie, and her husband Jeremy Stauffer; son-in-law, Lou Kendall (wife, Geri); brother, Dale Vassie; niece, Rhonda McCubbin; nephew, Robin Vassie.
Lou once said, "My four most accomplishments and things I am proud of in my life were marrying my wife, Liz Marie Worth, my two daughters, Brenda and Letitia, and my granddaughter, Telia Marie." You will be missed dearly but never forgotten. Have joy and peace in your Heavenly home with Jesus.
A celebration of Lou's life will be conducted on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road, with entombment to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM at the funeral home, and again on Wednesday morning from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM. The family would like to take this time to thank the many loving and caring staff at Bridgepointe at Village Manor as well as Hospice of Southern Kentucky who have helped Lou during this most difficult time. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Cancer Society and Hospice of Southern Kentucky.
