Ague, Marjorie Darlington Hewes, 90, went to live with her Heavenly Father on April 30, 2015. She was a resident of the Episcopal Church Home. Born on April 7, 1925, Marjorie “Margie” grew up during the Depression era and loved to explore the woods and waterways of her hometown, Hattiesburg, Mississippi. In school, she was a Straight A student, with great mastery of memorizing long poems and reciting them perfectly at a moment’s notice, this wonderful gift lasting even into her golden years. She met Ronald Frederick Ague of Wapakoneta, Ohio at the USO while he was stationed in Camp Shelby, Mississippi. They married after his return from military service in WW II and settled in Lima, Ohio. Work and educational opportunities brought the couple to Louisville where they lived for the remainder of their lives. Marjorie was an accomplished hand crafter of needle work and had a home filled with works of cross-stitch, crewel, embroidery, and needlepoint, many of which won high acclaim in area art shows. She was a member of the Highland Women’s Club, holding the offices of Secretary and Art Coordinator. She was an employee of South Central Bell Telephone Company for almost 40 years and retired in 1986. Her early years at the phone company included travel through the state of Kentucky, which she viewed with a sense of adventure. Marjorie was also a member of Westport Road Baptist Church. She was blessed to have many friends whom she loved and cherished dearly and entertained graciously. She remembered every birthday and wrote long letters at Christmas time to those friends and loved ones near and far. She stayed in touch with many of her childhood girlfriends and treasured them always. Marjorie was a person of extraordinary character and high ethics, a kind generous , and thoughtful Southern Belle who always had time to listen to everyone and help in times of need. For these reasons, and so many more, she will be truly missed. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Frederick Ague; her mother, Mildred Norfleete Beaumont Hewes, her father, Edward Pierce Hewes, Sr.; her sister, , Lorita “Boots” Ruth Hewes Mckinnis Finnegan; and her brother, Edward Pierce “E.P.” Hewes, Jr. Marjorie is survived by her three daughters: Lynne Igo of Dallas, Texas, Shirley Edlin (Joe) of Louisville and Tracey Albright (Richard) also of Louisville. She also leaves behind two grandchildren, Dawn Michelle Brown, and Richard Alexander Bate, IV (Holly) , and two great-grandchildren, Paige Williams and Cameron Hobbs. Although we mourn our loss and grieve deeply for our dearest and best Mom, we rejoice in the knowledge that even now, she is looking down from the balconies of Heaven! We will always miss you and love you, Dear Mama, and hold you close forever in our hearts. May God bless you richly and give you his peace. Until we meet again! A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 in the chapel of Arch L. Heady & Son at Westport Village, 7410 Westport Road. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. on Monday. In lieu of customary expressions of sympathy the family has requested memorial gifts to the American Cancer Society in memory of Marjorie.
