The world lost a gentle man and a gentleman on July 24th at 7:55 PM when God called him home after a long and courageous fight with the most insidious of cancers. He died peacefully in the arms of his adoring wife.
Preceding him to heaven and awaiting him with open arms were his parents, Donald E. and Mary Kathryn Patterson, and his brother-in-law, John Conrad Lewis.
Michael was born and raised in Louisville. He graduated from Trinity High School in 1966, attended St. Louis University, graduating Magna Cum Laude and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. His graduate studies were at George Washington University in Washington, DC where he received his Masters Degree in French.
After a brief period as a French and English teacher at Country Day School, Michael went into pharmaceutical sales where he spent the next 35 years in both sales and management. He also served two terms as Mayor and several terms as Commissioner of the City of Glenview Manor.
Michael loved God, his beloved wife, soul mate and best friend Lynda who never once left his side, his family, friends and ‘the girls’.
He loved playing bridge, golf, good bar-b-que, great restaurants, Maine lobster, blackjack, books, traveling the world, entertaining, funny t-shirts, Coogie sweaters, 60’s music, driving his Corvette at breakneck speeds with “Danger Zone” blasting on the CD player, concerts, a wonderful massage, a good workout and above all he was a huge fan of Uof L Cardinal basketball and football, and a loyal and true fan of Trinity football.
He was kind, humble, generous, thoughtful, modest, brilliant and so funny but he never realized it.
Left to miss him and cherish his memory are his wife of 39 years, Lynda; his mother-in-law, Betty Lou Lewis; his brother-in-law, whom he loved like a brother, Mark Edward Lewis and his wife Staci; and two adored nieces, Taylor Rae Lewis and Madison Paige Lewis along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends around the world.
A heartfelt thank you goes to the infusion team of nurses at Norton Louisville Oncology, especially to Kim and Tracy who were so stellar in the their gentleness. Keep wearing the red and black, Kimmie! And also to the entire staff at the Episcopal Church Home who cared for him so carefully and with such indescribable compassion. Also, thank you Dr. Jane Cornett for everything.
A Celebration of his life will be held from 11 AM to 2 PM on Sunday, July 29, 2012 at his home. Come Hungry.
Expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the Shamrock Foundation, Trinity High School or a charity of your choosing.
