

He was born on January 5, 1938, in Detroit, Michigan, to Marie and Lawrence Wurth.
The oldest of 3, Michael and his family moved to Paducah, Kentucky, where he would spend the majority of his life with his two siblings, Phil and Hilda Wurth.
Michael attended Saint Mary’s Catholic School and graduated from the Dorian Tribute School in Paducah, Kentucky.
After school, Michael served in the United States Army in Louisville, Kentucky, stationed at Fort Bragg. After the service, he began his career as a UPS driver, being one of the first drivers when the UPS Center opened in Paducah, Kentucky.
Michael became the Center Manager at UPS and served in multiple roles at UPS.
Michael was first married to Diane Ruth Morrison on June 6, 1964. Michael and Diane had three children: Brian Michael Wurth, Kelly Lynn Wurth/Von Busch, and Stephen Patrick Wurth. After the passing of Diane, Michael was married to Carolyn Rose Kaufman Smith on September 5, 2015.
In his younger years, Michael was a switch-hitter and was known to the boxing crowd as “Paducah Red”. He was proud of his accomplishments in the ring, especially competing in The Golden Gloves of America. His love of sports continued through his life as he cheered on the Kentucky Wildcats, the Dodgers, and the Raiders. Michael was an avid golfer, but above all Michael was a devoted, reliable, and caring family man.
Michael is survived by his sister, Hilda Wurth; his two children and their spouses, Brian Wurth (Tonya Wurth) and Kelly Wurth/Von Busch (Daniel Von Busch); his current spouse, Carolyn Wurth’s children; Sandy Doyle (Jack), Paula Haysley (Joe), and Debbie Thompson (Jason Underwood); his grandchildren, Brandon, Ashley, Sara, Victoria; Carolyn’s grandchildren, Leann, Bradley, Jacob, Nathan, Morgan, and Gabbie, his great grandchildren, Grace Lynn, Madison, Christian, Brooklyn, Savannah, Ashlyn, Elizabeth, and Jett; and Carolyn’s great grandchildren, Krysta, Rhett, Declan, and Jax.
Michael is preceded in death by Diane Wurth, Phil Wurth, his parents, Marie and Lawrence Wurth, and his son, Stephen Wurth.
A visitation in honor of Michael will be held at Arch L. Heady and Son Funeral Home, 7410 Westport Road, Louisville, KY 40222, on Wednesday, October 22nd, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A funeral mass will be held at Saint Bernadette Catholic Church, 6500 St. Bernadette Avenue, Prospect, KY 40059, at 11:00 am on October 23rd.
