Norman A. Uptagrafft, 80, of Shelbyville passed away October 4, 2011 at Jewish Hospital. He was born in Pensacola, Florida on October 11, 1930 to the late Greely and Tamsey Wall Uptagrafft. He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and a former member of the Moose Lodge. He was retired from the United States Army serving in the Infantry Division and also worked as an Air Traffic Controller in the Army as well as the Federal Government. He was a three war Veteran serving in WWII, Korean and Vietnam.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by two brothers.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Dorothy Warner Uptagrafft; a daughter, Gena Gerth (Chuck); a son, Ken Uptagrafft; and four grandchildren, Brittany Loewen (Joshua), Tiffany Gerth, Tyler Gerth and Megan Uptagrafft.
A celebration of his life will be conducted Monday, October 10, 2011 at 2pm at Hillcrest Baptist Church, 11406 Ballardsville Road with burial in Louisville Memorial Gardens East. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-8 at Arch L. Heady & Son at Westport Village, 7410 Westport Road and from 12-2 on Monday at the church.
