

Paul H. Ruby, 78, of Louisville passed on July 14, 2012. He was born on March 13, 1934 to Evelyn and Earl Ruby in Louisville. He graduated from Male High School in 1952, attended Stetson University and graduated from the University of Louisville. He served two years in the U.S. Army before spending four years in Frankfort as a community development agent, industrial agent and finally as the Executive Director of the Kentucky Atomic Energy and Space Authority. Paul later developed a career in municipal finance in Florida which began at Hillard-Lyons and further developed at Stiffel Nicolaus, where he spent over 20 years trading and underwriting municipal bonds. He returned to Kentucky at age 50 to work with the state’s Finance Cabinet.
He was predeceased by his parents, Evelyn and Earl Ruby; sisters Joan Perry (Ben) and Margaret Smock (Bob). He is survived by his two children, Sara Ruby Smith (Brian) and Beau Ruby; two grandchildren, Jack Ryan and Elizabeth Lynn “Libby” Smith; his nephew, Bob Smock Jr., who assisted Paul with many projects he couldn’t have undertaken without Bob’s help. He is also survived by many other nieces, nephews and cousins.
Paul will be remembered for his intelligence, charm, avid gardening and love for his animals. A visitation will be held on Thursday July 19, 2012 in the parlor of Arch L. Heady & Son at Westport Village from 4-7 pm. The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.
