Phillip Coates

He is survived by his beloved wife Jane (Lyon) Coates; his children Jennifer (Marty) Kays, Cathy (Von) Oliver, Elizabeth (Matt) Schmitt, Jeff (Mary Beth) Coates, and Jon (Stacia) Coates; his brothers, Jerry, Larry, and Rick; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Tamara Kays and her daughter Alexis, Chad Kays, Lauren (Brian) Lenhart and their children Parker and Grayson, Katie (Kyler) York, Abigail (Hayden) Hagerman and their son Ames, Haley Oliver, Natalie, Hannah, and Nick Coates, and Evon Oliver; his stepchildren and grandchildren Jennifer Buechler and her children Laiken, Madison, and Sophie, and Patrick (Amelia) Nethery and their children Christian and Cai; and by more cherished friends and extended family than seems humanly possible.

A graduate of Centerline High School, Phil spent his childhood and early years in and around Detroit, MI, before serving his country as a US Marine.

Following his time in the military, Phil began his lengthy career as a life-long entrepreneur. Getting his start in foodservice which ultimately became his flagship business, Kentuckiana Food Service. Phill also captained Lancaster’s catering and Thirsty-Mate, and in his spare time - obtained his pilot’s license as well.

Being a man who equally loved a diverse portfolio and a good gamble, he branched out into real estate and even into entertainment, playing a significant role in the early revitalization of Kentucky Kingdom and it eventual acquisition by Six Flags. Later in life, he diversified yet again, entering the home warranty business with All Service Warranty.

As much as he loved business, he enjoyed nothing more than playing cards (and the stock market) , betting the ponies (and golf, and football, and…), and spending time with friends.

Although sad to see him go, all who knew him can say with confidence that he left it all on the table.

You will be missed Phil.

Funeral services will be held 4 PM Thursday, September 27, 2018 with a visitation prior from 1-4 PM at Arch L Heady at Resthaven 4400 Bardstown Rd. Louisville, KY 40218.
