Born on November 8, 1927 in Springfield, Ohio, the Greene family moved to Louisville, KY where she graduated from Shawnee High School. It was then she met Clyde H. True. Following his return from World War II they eloped April 26, 1947. In 1957 Clyde fulfilled his promise to God, moved his family to Johnson Bible College in Tennessee and studied to become a preacher. Upon his graduation Phyllis became ‘the perfect minister’s wife’ and alongside her husband they faithfully served churches in Tennessee, Ohio and Kentucky. After Clyde passed away in 1985 Phyllis remained faithful and active at Hikes Point Christian Church often serving as a greeter. She was always willing to help by driving friends to doctor appointments and run errands. And there was always a jigsaw puzzle on the dining room table that everyone was encouraged to work on.
She was preceded in death by her husband Clyde H. True, her parents Marcus and Mary Calva Greene, her brother PFC James Max Greene (USMC-USS Saratoga), her second husband of 3 1/2 years Logan E. Newlon, and her granddaughter Bethaney Butler, who died 2 years ago to the day.
She is survived by her children, Gary True (Barbara), Robin Butler (William), Terry True (Kathy), Mark True (Jill), Lynn Muir (Leon) and David True (Denise), 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
