Ralph Slimick

He was predeceased by his wife, Betty, and grandsons Tyler Collins and Christopher Collins. He was also predeceased by his parents, Peter and Lila; his sister, Mary; and his brothers, Peter Jr. and Franklin.

He is survived by his children: Karen (Paul) Luther, Janet (Tom) Collins, Doug (Kaye) Slimick, and John. Grandchildren: Rachel Slimick, Sarah Dhar, Matthew Collins, and Emily Luther. Great-grandchildren: Morganne, Chloe, Grayson, Jamie Rose, and Emma. Beloved cats Andrew & Bob.

Ralph was born in the small coal mine town of Hill Station, south of Pittsburgh, on December 18, 1924. He was blessed with an idyllic childhood from which he had many wonderful memories.

In 1943, he entered the US Navy. He took the Queen Mary to Scotland and spent the entirety of the war in England and Wales doing supply work for the war effort in Europe and for the D-Day Invasion. He loved his time in the Navy and came home with countless stories from his time there. When the war ended in 1945, he returned to the U.S. aboard the Aquitania. Ralph remained in Pennsylvania for three years, then moved to Louisville in 1948. It was here that he met his wife, Betty, with whom he started a family and had four children.

Ralph started his career at the Ford Motor Company in 1955, working in maintenance. He was part of the first group of employees to work at the Ford Kentucky Truck Plant in 1969. He worked there until his retirement in 1993. He had an active retirement, forever in his workshop, working on projects and tinkering with gadgets. Ralph had a broad knowledge of electronics and was especially interested in physics. He very much enjoyed watching classic movies and war documentaries.

Ralph was a hard worker and a wonderful provider to his wife and children. His unique personality and generosity will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be at the Evergreen Funeral Home on Saturday, June 14, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, with the memorial service beginning at 12 noon. ~ 4623 Preston Hwy, Louisville
