I was trying to find out how to get in touch with you when I saw that you had passed.  I am so sorry I didn't get to tell you how much you meant to me while you were here.  You brought so much to my life by ways of teaching and coaching.  i have thought about you so many times in the years that have passed since St. Barnabas and hoped you were ok.  You were a great teacher and coach and I learned SOOO much from you.  You will forever be a mark on my life.  Thank you Mr. Ewing for all the lessons in life you gave me and for being the person you were.  I will miss you forever.

I was in Mr. Ewing's 8th grade history class in 1968, his first year at St. Barnabas.  I was also on the first volleyball, softball and basketball team he started at SB. Many of his coaching tips I pass on to my nieces and nephews. He influenced my life more than any other person I know. I only wish I had been able to meet with him one more time. There were so many memories.

Dick Ewing taught all 5 of our children at St. Barnabas. We shared his history teaching at suppertime all the time! He coached 2 of our daughters in volleyball and eventually they also coached grade school volleyball.  R.I.P. Mr. Ewing

Mr. Ewing was one of the best teachers and coach that I ever had.  I will never forget how hard he made us work both inside the classroom and on the court.  Inspite of all our hard work, there was never a dull moment and I will forever be grateful for everything that I learned from him.  He was a legend at St. Barnabas and will never be forgotten.  RIP Coach

Mr. Ewing taught me English in 7/8th grade at St. Barnabas.  He made learning fun and I am grateful for that.  Not only that he was the best coach that I had he taught me a great deal.  I will truly miss him.

As an SBS alum myself (class of '78) I can attest to the power that was Dick Ewing.  Boy do I have stories.  Rest in peace Mr Ewing knowing that you had a profound affect on hundreds of kids.  You live on in our memories

Mr. Ewing was my 7th grade teacher at St. Joseph.  St. Joseph was a very small school, one class per grade so I had him all day! He was tough in the classroom, but at the same time, made learning fun.  I especially enjoyed his teaching of grammar-I loved to diagram those sentences!  JFK was assassinated my 7th grade year so I always think of Mr. Ewing living that history with us.  He provided us with many great memories by taking us on outings to St. Thomas/St. Vincent Home where he was raised.  We would have one big field day!  Our paths crossed later in life when he substituted at Crosby Middle School where I was a counselor.  He always seemed to remember everyone's name that he had taught during those early years of his career.  Being a lifelong educator, I know what a feat that is!  Rest in Peace, Mr. Ewing.

Mr. Ewing was a terrific teacher and coach.  He taught American History with what may have been considered unorthodox teaching methods in the 1970s, but he was very effective in his role as educator. He employed music, rhymes, and humorous sayings to help us recall events. He took the time to make sure that every assignment was executed in a precise manner.  From dates of historical events,  to spelling, to handwriting, he demanded correctness.  The same demands were present in his coaching style.  He ran long practices all times of the year to prepare his teams for game day.  
If you knew Richard Ewing, you know this scripture passage:  "Don't you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So RUN TO WIN!"

I had Mr. Ewing for History at St. Barnabas and he ranks as one of the best teachers I have every had.  A love for American History blossomed for many of us because of him and his skill in the classroom.  Many lessons for life were also taught that I find myself passing along to my kids such as the 5 P's "proper preparation prevents poor performance."  He touched many lives during his life.

I have thought about Mr. Ewing many times over the many years since my 8th grade year.  He was one the best teachers I have ever had. He will be greatly missed and remembered by many.

What a blessing it was to have Mr. Ewing (or Adrian as my class liked to call him) as a teacher and coach.  It has been echoed throughout the entries here.  There are many wonderful memories like the hundreds of volleys with the basketball, the nickname of Turkey Feet he gave me during volleyball practice, Tarley Sagel, and Slippery Rock University.  His sense of humor made learning fun.  He will be missed by many.

I will never forget my seventh grade year and history which I hated, but because of his awesome teaching ability I learned so much. Dates imbedded in my brain thanks to him!  He had no idea how respected he was, he had no idea how loved he was, and his coaching; no words can express this.  He was an awesome coach and I will miss him.

Mr. Ewing was my history teacher, as well as my volleyball coach during my 1973-74 7/8 grade years at St. Barnabas. I can hear his voice, recall so many stories told in class, like it was yesterday. Mr. Ewing took his teaching and coaching very seriously, and somehow made it fun for his students to learn, and even fun for his athletes as we ran lap after lap around the school, did volleyball taps until our fingers were numb, and countless arm circle exercises. He instilled discipline, and wanted us all to believe in ourselves. Rest in peace, you have earned it.

Coach Ewing was a good guy and we sure did have alot of laughs during practice, games and road trips on the bus for Bellarmine.  I remember his famous three letters WIN! (whats important now)That was his slogan....RIP coach!

Mr. Ewing was one of the few extraordinary teachers and coaches who made a positive lasting impression on many young minds. As a kid, I remember how he made me feel important the many times he called out my name, attached with a “hello”, from across the schoolyard. He was truly a bright light who made the world a better place.

Mr. Ewing was a fantastic English and History teacher at St. Barnabas.  I feel very fortunate to have had him as one of my teachers.  He will always be remembered.

What memories...   Mr. Ewing was a great teacher and coach at Saint Barnabas.  I remember the volleyball tap ups with basketballs and running around the school in our high tops.  I loved his history classes full of information and humorous side notes.  Mr. Ewing touched the lives of many students over the years.  May he rest in peace.

Mr. Ewing was, and is, a St. Barnabas icon.  He was the first teacher, in my mind, that made learning fun.  I became a teacher myself and used many of his methods in my classroom.  He had a nickname, or play on names, for all of his students.  (For example, he called me "Totem"  My last name is Pohl) It was a simplistic and funny way to make you feel noticed and important. I learned much about discipline through his coaching.  He had a impact on so many.  "Run to Win" in peace Mr. Ewing!

Mr. Ewing taught me English in junior high at St. Barnabas, and to this day I still know how to diagram a sentence. His teaching actually made me enjoy grammar (an amazing educational achievement) and truly understand it. He was dedicated to his calling and will be missed.

Coach Ewing coached me in Varsity Softball at Male High School in 1993 and 1994.  He was an excellent coach, and I remember well his lessons to "Be the best person you can be, the best student you can be, and the best athlete you can be."  He was a fine example, and I've thought of him many times over the years and his dedication to the student athletes at Male High School.  Thanks for the memories and the lessons, Coach.

Mr. Ewing was the best teacher I ever had in school. He was the first to make learning fun, and inspired my love of American History. Rest in peace.

Mr. Ewing made St. Barnabas athletics what it was in the late 60's, 70's and early 80's, a dominant force. RUN TO WIN will forever be associated with him. Along with his athletic strong hold, he instilled learning techniques that advanced many of us through high school and college. I had a professor in college who stopped me after an exam and asked if I had Richard Ewing in grade school, I said yes...he replied I thought so, he could tell from my written exams.

Mr Ewing was my 7/8th grade History teacher at St Barnabas....I will never forget him....his teaching style and humor were unmatched.  I have a love of American History to this day that I owe directly to his enthusiasm and dedication to this subject. I have told my kids several stories that I remember Mr Ewing telling us... God bless you Mr. Ewing and rest in peace.

Coach always had a smile and a kind word for an old acquaintance.
He was one of the more enjoyable people involved in Jefferson County athletics. Rest in Peace my friend.
