

Richard Alfred Straub, 93, of Louisville, Kentucky passed away on June 30, 2016. Richard was born on May 24, 1923 in Louisville, Kentucky. He was predeceased by his parents, John Alfred Paul, Sr. and Lena Haller Straub, and his siblings, Margaret Straub, J. Alfred Paul Straub, Jr. and Ruth Straub Gordon.
He was a 1941 graduate of Dupont Manual High School. He attended the University of Missouri and the University of Louisville and was retired from the pharmaceutical sales industry. In the 1960s, he and his brother Louis owned and operated the 1880 Club in Old Louisville, which featured many Hollywood entertainers. In his later years he worked for AARP. He was a Veteran of WWII and Korea. A member of the Signal Corps, he served in the European Theatre, including D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge. He earned five bronze stars and three purple hearts. He was a Kentucky Colonel and an active member of Crescent Hill United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir.
He is survived by his brother, Louis R. Straub, Sr. and sister-in-law, Beatrice C. Straub; nephews, Louis R. Straub, II (Elizabeth), John A. Paul Straub, III (Robin), Matthew S. Straub (Susan); and his great nieces, Madeline and Anna Claire Straub.
Visitation will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 5 in the Chapel at Crescent Hill United Methodist Church, 201 S. Peterson Avenue. The funeral service will begin at 1p.m. at Crescent Hill United Methodist Church with burial following at Cave Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Crescent Hill United Methodist Church.
