Robert "Bobbo" Stinson

He was born in Louisville, Kentucky on June 14, 1950 to the late Charles Herbert and Georgia Alice (Gaddie) Stinson. He is preceded in death by his sister, Wendy Travis; his brothers, Arthur Bryant Jr. and Charles Herbert Stinson Jr.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 45 years, Deborah Jarboe Stinson; sons, Leonard (Keri) Wolz, Damon(Clarissa) Stinson and Joshua(Kayla) Stinson; daughter Rhiannon (Joseph) Barker; He also reluctantly leaves behind grandsons, Tyler Wolz, Nathan Stinson, Owen Barker and Dominic Stinson; granddaughters, Emma Greenfield, Rosalyn Stinson, and Wren Barker; and one brother Henry Curtis Stinson.

Robert was raised Catholic and graduated from DeSales high school and Bellarmine University. He was an avid Bellarmine basketball fan and season ticket holder until his passing. Robert worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 32 years where he made many good friends. Robert began his postal career on October 1, 1973 as a letter carrier at Station E, which was located at Fifth and Lee Street. He received his first promotion to carrier in 1980 and served in that capacity at the Okolona and Iroquois Stations. In 1987 he was promoted to the Office of Delivery Programs for the Kentuckiana District where he oversaw the initial deployment of Computers to their stations, branches, and associate offices of the district. He served as the installer, trainer and technical guru for this project for several years. Over the next few years he taught himself to program in the Basica computer language and wrote many of the programs for use throughout the Kentuckiana district and much of the Eastern part of the country. His greatest programming achievement was a system which routed plant- loaded mailings throughout the country based on the size of each mail piece and the number of pieces per five digit zip code. For this feat he was awarded both recognition and the monetary bonus by the Eastern Area Office.

Robert became an expert in the use of the Microsoft Excel computer program and developed many spreadsheet applications which were used at post offices throughout the country until well after his retirement on October 1, 2005. He also taught Excel classes for the Postal Service as well as 9 years with the Jefferson County Public Schools Office of Adult Education.

In 1991 Robert was attached to a team from Postal headquarters which conducted data collection for the implementation and assessment of high- speed optical reading letter sorting machinery. He continued this assignment at various locations around the country until 1995.

In 1995 Robert returned the Kentuckiana District and was promoted to the position of Senior Rule Analyst where he oversaw all aspects of rural delivery throughout Kentucky and Southern Indiana until 2000. After serving as Officer-in-Charge at the Sellersburg, Indiana and Prospect, Kentucky post offices, Robert was promoted to Postmaster of Leitchfield, Kentucky where he worked until his retirement. Robert liked to say that he enriched the lives of every postal employee whom he encountered; some while working and the rest upon his retirement.

Robert was a versatile amateur athlete and played on many softball, basketball, volleyball and football teams for numerous organizations. Including Holy Name Parish, the U.S. Postal Service, VFW Post 2921, and the South Central and Merry Mac Athletic Clubs.

He also served as a coach for various team sports at Holy Name Parish, Marydale and Bullitt County Little Leagues, and the South Central Athletic Club.

Robert taught himself to play the guitar and ukulele. In addition, he became a self- taught wood turner upon his retirement and won more than 30 ribbons for his wood turning entries to the Kentucky State Fair. He also won numerous ribbons at the Bullitt County and Lebanon Junction Fairs. Through his website and several galleries, Robert sold his works to customers in at least 19 states and 3 foreign countries. He also executed many acrylic paintings which won awards at the Bullitt County Fair.

Robert was most proud of his writings. In addition to his novel "...all the gods..." he wrote poetry and both fictional and non fictional short stories. Two of his short stories were featured in the 1997 compilation "No Shit, There I was... At Last!" Other short stories and poems won awards from the Bullitt County Public Library, the Courier Journal, and the Kentucky Rural Electric Cooperative Corporation.

Robert would like to give his sincere thanks to his medical team at the Norton Cancer Institute for extending his life as long as possible. He would especially like to thank Doctors Matthew Peterson, Sarah Parsons and Arah Rezazadeh along with the many nurses and staff members who were angels that became friends. He would also like to thank his family and friends for their continued love, support and prayers as he battled his disease. Expressions of sympathy can take the form of donations in his name to Saint Bernard Elementary School, DeSales High School, Bellarmine University, or the American Cancer Society.

The Service will be held on Monday September 24, 2018 at 12:00pm at Evergeen Dignity Chapel. Visitation will be Sunday from 1:00pm - 8:00pm at the funeral home.
