Robert McLean Smith

Robert was born on July 9, 1931 to Frank and Elizabeth Smith in Camden, New Jersey. After graduating High School he joined the Air Force and after a short stint in basic training relocated to Austin, Texas at Bergstrom Air Force Base. It was in Austin, that our father met and married our wonderful mother Carolyn Smith. He served overseas in several countries during the Korean War for four years. After his service years were completed, he returned to Austin and attended and graduated from the University of Texas @ Austin with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration.

Robert worked for the Texas Department of Transportation in the Right of Way Division for 36 years. He will be fondly remembered for his love and passion for the Texas Longhorns and Dallas Cowboys and was a Season Ticket holder for the Longhorns for many years.

His children will forever be grateful for his unwavering love for his children, and for setting such a superb example of how to be a Father.

Robert was predeceased by his wife Carolyn Smith of 66 years. He is survived by his Sister Jeannie Dewitt, children Sharon Burckardt (Bob), Robert Smith, Jr., Leslie Smith (Jim Blystone), and Grandchildren Rachael Novak Barnum, Matthew Novak and Gage Novak.

Funeral Services will be held on December 26, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Crescent Grove Chapel (Masonic Home Campus), Louisville, Kentucky with private burial to be held in Austin, Texas at a later date. The family wishes to thank the staff at Forest Springs Health Campus and Masonic Home (Judy House) for their compassionate care.
