Ruth Gonterman Blakey

She was born June 29, 1923 in Bowling Green, KY the daughter of William and Mayme Gonterman. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 21 years, Jack G. Blakey; her granddaughter, Megan Blakey; one son-in-law, George Smith; and two sisters, Edith Moran and Rebecca Friend.

Ruth was very devoted to her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. She was a member of Watkins United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was also an avid UK basketball fan.

Survivors include two sons, Bill Blakey (Cindy) and Jack Blakey (Lisa); four daughters, Sue Kwitek (John), Jane Waits (Tim), Laura Smith and Lisa Swarner (Wes); 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Lynn Jenson, Phyllis Clark, Wynona Flaherty; and several nieces and nephews.

A service to celebrate Ruth’s life will be conducted at 1:00 PM Saturday, October 10, 2015 at Arch L. Heady & Son at Westport Village, 7410 Westport Rd. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
