Buddy was an avid hunter and fisherman and a follower of UK sports (especially basketball.)
He was retired from General Electric after 39 dedicated years, and a was a Master Mason of Highland Park 865. He loved sharing stories of his big tournament wins and days of working for the union. However, his greatest source of pride was his family. He loved sharing the story of how he met his wife, the love of his life that day at the revival at his dad's church (that he wasn't even supposed to be at). He loved his family more than life itself, and had so much pride in his son, grand children, and great grandchildren, and it showed it in his eyes every time they walked in the room.
Buddy is preceded in death by his parents, James and Mildred Sturgill, and his sisters, Emma Sturgill Music and Marlene Sturgill Jarvis.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Barbara Sturgill, their son Dr. Mark Sturgill (Cindy), two grandchildren, Sarah Rudd and Ali Hudson (Tyler) and great grandchildren, Logan Rudd, Lily Rudd, Liam Rudd and Kash Hudson. He is also survived by his sister, Tharon Kershner as well as other extended family and friends.
Immediate family would like to recognize and give a special thanks to all who supported us through this tough time, especially Gina and Bill Harting for all of the extra provided love and support they've given so unselfishly.
Guests are invited to attend a visitation from 4-8 pm on Sunday August 18, 2024 at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven. A funeral service will take place at 12PM on Monday, August 19, 2024 in the Chapel of Arch L. Heady at Resthaven with entombment to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery.
Buddy loved all the children in his life, and always got emotional when viewing the support requests from the children's hospitals on tv or online. Because of this, In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research, P.O. Box 1999, Memphis, TN 38101.
Everyone who has interacted with Buddy has a fun story to tell. Please share it below so we can enjoy memories of him together. The family appreciates all your messages and sympathies .
