

Valerie C. Browning (White) was born May 2, 1952, in Norfolk, Virginia to George, Sr. and Louise White. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School and furthered her education at Norfolk Technical Institute, receiving certification in secretarial and office management.
She accepted Jesus Christ, as Lord and Savior, at an early age, was baptized at Second Calvary Baptist Church in Norfolk, Virginia, and remained a faithful member until she relocated to Louisville, Kentucky, where she joined Centennial Olivet Baptist Church in 1981. At Centennial Olivet, she served on the Usher/Greeting Ministry, and Deacon/Trustee Ministry. Valerie had many gifts and skills and willingly served unselfishly where she was needed.
When Valerie moved from Norfolk to Louisville in the late 70’s, she begin working for the University of Louisville in the Housing Department, and later moved to Student Affairs Office, working more particularly with Greek Life, assisting the fraternities and sororities. Valerie was an avid Louisville Cardinal supporter and fan, supporting all the sporting events, particularly basketball and football as a season ticket holder. She also supported the University Club and was one of the original charter members. She retired from the university after serving faithfully for 34 years.
In September 1981, she married Wilbur S. Browning Sr., and they raised children Wilbur, Jr., Tracy, Mary, Tamaria (Valerie’s niece), and Barrett (their only son together: now deceased). Valerie and Wilbur were married for 44 years until her ascension on January 13, 2026, to be with the Lord and her eternal rest from humble service as “First Lady” of Centennial Olivet.
Valerie is survived by her husband Rev. Dr. Wilbur S. Browning Sr., her sister Edith White, her stepchildren- Wilbur, Jr. (Angie), and Tracy Browning, her nieces- Tamaria Wood-Faulks (Milton), Wanda Wood, Nikesha Parker, Roxanne Holiday, her nephews- James Parker, Franchott Wood. She is also survived by a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins, and many friends. Valerie had other siblings, who are now deceased: Barbara, Mary, George, Jr., Patricia, and Gina.
Valerie will be greatly missed and her memories cherished by all who knew her.
Funeral service will be 2pm Saturday, January 24, 2026 at Evergreen Funeral Home with entombment in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be 11am-2pm at the funeral home.
