

Vonley Sturgeon, 93, of Louisville, passed away peacefully on the afternoon of May 4, 2013 at the Nazareth Home surrounded by his loving family. He was a native of New Market (Lebanon) KY., and a U. S. Army veteran of World War II, in the European Theatre. He was a member of the "greatest generation". Vonley was a Baptist by faith and an avid U of K fan. He loved spending time with his family and friends, having a good meal, and he never met a stranger. He was a very caring and loving man and helpful to others in need.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Frank and Lula Grammar Sturgeon; several siblings; his first wife, Marietta Sims Sturgeon; grandson, Bryan Ala and daughter-in-law, Patricia Kaelin Sturgeon.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 44 years, Helen Boone Sturgeon; children, Dr. Gerald (Pam) Sturgeon, Glenda Norris, Arylane (Rich) Ala, Debbie (Donnie) Faulkner, David Sturgeon, Mark (Kim) Sturgeon and Maria Sturgeon; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
A Life Celebration will be held on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at noon at the Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Chapel, 4400 Bardstown Road , with interment in Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 3-8 p.m. and after 10 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
The family would like to send a special "Thank You" to the staff at the Nazareth Home for all of their loving and thoughtful care that was bestowed on Vonley, as well as the family, during this time.
