Walter was born in Louisville, Kentucky on June 16th, 1945, to Joseph M. and Blanche Pollard Farmer. In his younger years, he was a member of the Freemasons and built and raced cars with his friends. Walter was a proud Army veteran and earned a degree from the ITT Technical Institute, working as a tube fitter with the local US W 6828 steelworkers union for a number of years before becoming a caregiver. He was known by his family to be an incredible cook, grill aficionado, and TV and movie buff. He seemed to always be in the kitchen preparing meals, coming up with all kinds of crazy food concoctions for everyone to try, and spending quality time with his loved ones. Above all, Walter was known as “Daddy Walt” to his wife’s children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. More than a “step-father”, Walter truly loved and treated them as his own.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Farmer, and a son, Barry Baugh, Jr.
He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Sandra Farmer; children Jody Avery (David), Nathan Carter (Amy), and Rachel Baugh; 3 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and his beloved pets, Charlie, his dog, and his two cats, Babygirl and TT.
A visitation for Walter will be held at Evergreen Funeral Home in Louisville, Kentucky, on Monday, July 21st, 2025, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, with a funeral service to follow beginning at 12:00 pm. Walter will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery.
