

William “Bill” Sengelaub, III, walked into the arms of God on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at Crestview Healthcare in Shelbyville. He was born in Louisville, KY, on July 21, 1944 to Cornelia (Wirth) and William Sengelaub, Sr.
He was a graduate of St. Elizabeth of Hungary and St. X (Class of 1962) and attended UofL. He was a Vietnam Veteran, having served in the U.S. Army from 1965 through 1967. He started working at Brown & Williamson Tobacco in 1969 where he met his future wife, Donna, and retired from there after over 30 years of service.
In 2006 he and Donna relocated from Macon, GA, to Shelbyville, KY. Bill was an avid golfer, reader, and expert on 1950’s rock & roll. He enjoyed playing cards and in his younger years, played softball until he was in his 50’s. Bill was a member of Church of Annunciation in Shelbyville.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, June Clements and nephew, Mark Clements. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Donna Howell Sengelaub; his daughters, Denise Petty (Gary), Amber Mills (Chris) and son, Justin Sengelaub (Christina); ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, and his best friends of over 50 years, Jim & Gay Heilman.
Appreciation and thanks goes to all the staff at Crestview who cared for him during the last few years.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, from 3:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville, KY 40218. A funeral service in Bill’s honor will begin at 10:00 AM Thursday morning, June 4, 2026. Bill will be entombed in Resthaven Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Mass of the Air, the Kentucky Humane Society, or your favorite charity.
