

William (Bill) Owen O’Brien, of Louisville, passed away surrounded by family on August 22, 2019 at the age of 93. Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 68 years, Mary Ann Sanning O’Brien, and son, Robert. Bill was born on June 20, 1926 in Gate City, Virginia. He left high school to join the U.S. Navy during World War II and finished his education upon returning from the war. He retired from Fischer Packing Company after 40 years. He was an active member in his community, coaching youth baseball at Lyndon Recreation and serving as commissioner of the Norwood neighborhood. More than anything, Bill loved his family. His quiet laugh lit up the room, and his joyous heart kept family close always.
Bill is survived by his sons, Jim (Beth), Pat, and Tim (Debbie) and daughter, Mary Bruce (Pat); 10 grandchildren, Kevin (Julie), Michael (Devona), David (Erin), Matt (Tara), Rebecca, Samantha, Molly, Sarah, Sean (Kelli), and Emily; 8 great-grandchildren, Nick, Kelly (Cameron), Spencer, Kaelyn, Jameson, Colin, Anna, and Ben; and 2 great-great-grandchildren, Kinley and Grant.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday in the chapel of Arch L. Heady-Cralle Funeral Home, 2428 Frankfort Avenue with interment to follow at Cave Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
