Poppy was born June 4, 1939 in Geneva, NY, the daughter of the late Albert and Winifred (Carr) Owen. Poppy graduated from Geneva High School in 1957. In 1954 she met and fell in love with Ronald Carl Morse. They married shortly after she graduated in 1957 and began their long beautiful life together.
Poppy worked as an Administrative Assistant at Cornell University in NY while Ron attended there working on his degree in Agricultural Engineering. Shortly after he graduated, they started their family.
Poppy loved life and all of its adventures. She spent years living in and enjoying her time learning all about the area in California, Colorado, Germany, Tennessee, Texas, and Wyoming. The Colorado mountains and Texas hill country were near and dear to her heart.
A most beautiful artist all of her life, Poppy was a founding member of the Colorado Quilting Council, taught quilting classes in Loveland, CO, and was a designer and owner of two pattern companies: Patchwork House Patterns and Frontier Spirits Patterns. She enjoyed watercolor painting and left many treasured pieces. She also played the piano, taking requests from her children each morning as they prepared for school each day.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband Ron, Severance, CO; siblings: Janice Meeks, Geneva, NY, Allene (John) Jones, and Dale (MaryAnn) Owen, Rochester, NY; children, Lori Anderson, Eaton Co, Sue Coons, Loveland CO, Holly McDougall, Richmond, TX, Tom Morse, Loveland, CO; grandchildren, Christy Hayes, Lasalle, CO, Jamie Carlsen, Evans, CO, Josh Coons, Loveland CO, Jesse Coons, Loveland, CO, Lynni Anderson, Eaton, CO, Sarah McDougall, Windsor CO, Jon Anderson, Cheyenne, WY, Corey McDougall, Windsor CO, Brendan Morse, Loveland, CO, Sabrina Coons, Loveland, CO; as well as 17 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, other family members, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Albert Francis Owen and Winifred Jeanette (Carr) Owen, and brother-in-law Robert Meeks.
The family will hold a private celebration of life in her honor.
