David Michael Yates

David “Mike” Michael Yates, 74, of Johnstown, Colorado passed away August 31, 2025, at the Medical Center of the Rockies. He was born December 14, 1950, to Leon and Wilma (McLean) Yates in Hamlett, North Carolina.

Raised in Rockingham, North Carolina, Mike was a graduate of the Rockingham High School class of 1969. He was a huge historian and loved sharing his knowledge about historic battles and wars, one of his favorite games to play was Risk. Mike was an avid golfer and loved fishing; especially surf fishing at Carolina Beach. He loved boating, reading, drumming, music of all kinds, and he was especially fond of Carolina Beach Music. Another favorite hobby of Mike’s was going for long walks in nature and enjoying the sounds of nature especially thunderstorms. Of course, spending time with his family and friends were also amongst some of his most treasured pastimes. Mike will be deeply missed by all those who knew him.

He is survived by his wife Robin Yates of Johnstown, Colorado, daughter Christy (Dale) Yates Bartlett of Sophia, North Carolina, sons John Yates of Concord, North Carolina, Matthew (Michelle) Jordan, and Chris (Heather) Jordan of Millikin, Colorado, sister Judy (Butch) Spencer of Rockingham, North Carolina, grandchildren Cory Bartlett, Chad Bartlett, Halen (Joshua) Bartlett Broach, Madelyn Yates, Kayleigh Yates, Truett, Julian, Jax, Ace and Knox Jordan, great grandchildren Dodge & Storie Jarmon, Delta & Atlas Broach, his nephews Lee and Scott Infinger, Jamie Yates, Dave Friedel, niece, Shawna Burrows, sisters-in-law, Joyce Davidson of Vero Beach, Florida and Dianne Burrows of Hanover, Pennsylvania and brother-in-law Bob Burrows of Middle River, Maryland.

He was preceded by his parents Leon and Wilma Yates and his brother Ronnie Yates.

A private celebration of Mike's life will be held at a later date.
