In 1944, Jeannie began college as a business major at UNM in Albuquerque and pledged Chi Omega sorority. She then transferred to the University of Texas and graduated in 1948 with a business administration degree. She worked as a legal secretary in Amarillo until getting married in 1950.
In 1964, after the birth of her two sons, the family sold the Chevrolet dealership and moved to Montrose, Colorado where they owned the Buick/Pontiac car dealership. After a divorce in 1970, Jeannie worked for the federal government (CRSP) in Montrose and, in 1973, transferred to the Denver Federal Center, Finance Division, Bureau of Reclamation. In 1979, Jeannie married Lester Schlagel of Fort Morgan, CO and they later divorced in 1982. Jeannie then moved to Loveland, CO and was re-employed by (Federal) Western Area Power Administration, Lands Division (negotiating and title work) until retirement in 1995. Jeannie successfully owned and operated rental properties in Denver, Fort Morgan, and Loveland. While in Loveland, she enjoyed playing piano for New Horizons Swing Band for 14 years and, for a time, percussion in Concert Band.
Jeannie enjoyed and appreciated many dear friendships in Loveland. She was a loving mother and grandmother who was much loved by her family.
At her request, there will be no funeral service...just the request that you remember her as a joyous woman, living life to the fullest and enjoying every minute.
