Patricia was born in Laramie, Wyoming to Carl and Ellen Langendorf on March 17, 1930. She grew up in mountain timber camps where her father worked as a lumberman chopping railroad ties by hand (tie hack). At the age of 8 she was already doing taxes for many of the lumbermen in the camps. After graduating from high school at the age of 16, she attended the University of Wyoming, graduating with a degree in Mathematics and Statistics. She taught school in a one-room schoolhouse in Coalmont, Colorado for a short time before she was hired by the Federal government to work in White Sands, New Mexico as a member of the US Department of Defense. In her role as a programmer for the federal government she was involved in helping to develop the Internet and was also involved in helping to develop our national defense system (NORAD).
Patricia retired in Rome, NY at the age of 60, where she lived out her life by being a living example of the principles of the AA 12-step program. She spent her retirement mentoring many young men and women into sobriety. Patricia was the proud owner of a chip representing her 54 years of sobriety. She was still attending meetings right up until the time she passed away. She wanted it known that she died sober.
Patricia’s hobbies were reading, knitting and keeping track of politics. She loved to discuss the political climate with anyone who would participate in such a conversation.
On September 28, 2014, Patricia married long time friend and love John Stewart Gerow who preceded her in death on December 11, 2014. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Ellen, her brother Ted and her sister Virginia. She is survived by her sister Edith, brother in-law Bill, and many nieces and nephews who all loved her dearly.
A viewing will take place at the Greenlawn Cemetery in Berthoud, Colorado between the hours of 8:00 am and 9:30 am on August 21, 2021 after which a graveside service will be held at 10 am where she will be laid next to her husband John.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Good Samaritan Society Loveland Village in Loveland, Colorado.
