

Ancestry on both sides included a strong naval background. Both of Richard’s parents worked and met in the Port of Liverpool and married in 1968 setting up home in Meols, Merseyside where they still live today. Richard has an older brother Anthony, 55, and a younger brother Charles, 51. The Oddy family had lots of holidays including camping and canal boat adventures. The household was always busy with two aunties (Norah and Grace) and friends visiting to play. The two family dogs led to Richard’s lifelong enjoyment and ownership of dogs.
Richard enjoyed golf and hiking in the Lake District; however, one of his main passions was playing his oboe at various events, often with his friend, Tim.
Upon completing his secondary school exams, in addition to achieving entry to Cambridge University, he also achieved the Biology of Great Britain award which resulted in his receiving a medal blessed by Pope John Paul II.
In 1989 Richard attended Pembroke College at Cambridge University to study medicine. In 1996, he moved to Manhattan in New York to study Psychiatry at Cornell University. He went on to become board certified in Psychiatry, Psychosomatic Medicine, Addiction Medicine and was a Lifetime Fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine.
Richard moved to Nebraska and practiced psychiatry in North Platte and Kearney. In 2003, Richard became Stepfather to Miranda (Pinkerton) Furlong and in 2004, he became father to his “mini me,” Oliver.
In 2004, Richard and family moved to Loveland, Colorado. He loved classical music, being in the mountains, traveling around the world, and spending time with family and friends here and abroad.
He is survived by his son Oliver Oddy, stepdaughter Miranda (Richard) Furlong, granddaughter Leah, parents John and Marie Oddy, brothers Anthony and Charles (Judith) Oddy, Auntie Norah Stuart, friends Timothy Edwards and Cindy Marino, and several cousins in the UK and California.
He will be forever in our hearts.
A celebration of life will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at the Allnutt Funeral Services – Hunter Chapel, 2100 N. Lincoln Avenue, Loveland, CO 80538. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Oliver Oddy in Richard's name.
