Sharon Lanore Niemann was born on the family farm near Avoca (Potawatomie County), Iowa on March 30, 1939. She was the fourth child born to Ruth (Bornholdt) and Edward Niemann.
Sharon always spoke fondly of her childhood. She grew up near her grandparents and other family members. She attended country school through primary level, sometimes riding her horse to and from. She graduated from Avoca High School in 1957. She was on the girls’ high school varsity basketball team from the 8th grade through her senior year. She was active in Luther League and 4H. She was vice president of the Iowa State 4H board and traveled to Washington DC with them. A highlight of that trip was seeing Senator John F. Kennedy in the rotunda of the capital.
Sharon met her future husband as a young teenage girl. She married Clifford Doyle on December 9, 1958, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Avoca, Iowa. They were married for nearly 68 years. Sharon worked to put Cliff through college and then was a stay-at-home mother to their three children. The family moved to Loveland in 1965 when Cliff accepted a job at Hewlett Packard. Sharon was an involved mother; she loved attending her kid’s activities and sporting events. She was a talented seamstress making clothes for her kids including prom and homecoming dresses. She had a sewing business out of her home while her kids were young. In 1980 she went to work at Johnson’s Publishing / US West. She was there for about eight years before retiring.
Sharon had many interests. She enjoyed spending time at their log home near Red Feather Lakes. She hosted many family events there, including a granddaughter’s wedding reception. She loved to travel and was fortunate to see many European and Asian countries, Mexico, Jerusalem and had an eventful rickshaw ride in China. She made many trips with friends to Hawaii and Las Vegas for “girls getaways”. Sharon and Cliff took an Alaskan cruise for their 60th wedding anniversary.
She loved jigsaw and crossword puzzles, embroidery, sewing, chocolate, sports, gardening and Fox News. She was a friend to every dog she met! Sharon was “Grandma” to eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was a hands-on grandma! She could be found in the bleachers cheering them on.
Sharon was blessed with a loving large extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Ruth Niemann, parents-in-law Harold and Noma Doyle, her son, Dan Doyle, granddaughter Sarah Wolfgram, her brothers, David and Rodney Niemann, brothers-in law, Wallace Pattee, and Gary Antony, sisters-in-law, Janice Niemann and Bonnie Doyle, a niece, Susan Peterson and dear friends Beth Sheahan and Jackie Stonebrink.
