Alan Bernard Scott, age 53, passed into the arms of the Lord on November 20, 2018, in Lubbock Texas. Alan was born April 14, 1965 in Brunswick, Georgia to James H. Scott, Col., USAF, Ret. and Angelyn B. Scott of San Antonio Texas.
Alan leaves to mourn his loving wife Tammy Scott of Lubbock, Texas, and his beloved mother-in-law, Catherine Brisco of Lubbock, Texas. Alan also leaves to mourn his treasured brother, Alton J. Scott, Lt. Col., USAF, Ret. and Theresa Scott of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Alan leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews: Malcolm Stone, Dominique Brisco, and Isaiah Brisco of Lubbock, Texas; Zoe Brisco - of San Antonio, Texas; Jordyn Wallace of Mansfield, Texas; and Joshua Scott - (J1), Jordan Scott - (J2), Joseph Scott - (J3), Jonathan Scott - (J4), and Joel Scott - (J5) of Colorado Springs, Colorado.
As the son of a military parent, Alan traveled extensively to numerous nationwide locations. He attended grade school in Novato, California, Sacramento, California, and Colorado Springs, Colorado. He attended junior high school and high school in San Antonio Texas (Winston Churchill). He graduated from O’Fallon High School in O’Fallon, Illinois in 1983, where he was a 3-sport letter athlete in football, basketball, and track and field.
Education:
After high school, Alan moved to Lubbock to attend Texas Tech University and begin his career. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Lubbock Christian University, where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Organizational Management. Alan earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) - Specialization in Human Resource Management, and a Master of Arts (MA) in Counseling from Wayland Baptist University.
Professional Certifications:
Alan was a Licensed Professional Counselor - Supervisor and had professional certifications in Marriage and Family Therapy and Sexual Assault/ Domestic Violence. Alan had an established private counseling practice: Bernard, Palmer, Scott & Jerome LLC, where he counseled a diverse group of clients. Alan also worked as a Licensed Professional Counselor (mental health assessor) at University Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas.
Volunteer Service:
Alan served on the boards of numerous organizations, including Lubbock Rape Crisis Center, where he served as President of the Board of Directors for 3 years and a Member of the Board of Directors for 3 years; his overall service time totaled 23 years with the Lubbock Rape Crisis Center. Alan also served as a Member of the Board of Directors at Covenant Health System (Clinical Pastoral Education). He served as a Member of the Board of Directors at the Lubbock State Supported Living Center (formally Lubbock State School), and served as a volunteer Licensed Professional Counselor at the University Medical Center Cleft Palate Clinic. As a stroke survivor, Alan attended as a Member and served as a Licensed Professional Counselor "Consultant" and Group Facilitator at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Stroke and Aphasia Recovery Group (STAR) program.
