Alvin B. Simek, 87, left his earthly home in Lubbock, Texas to join our Father in Heaven on Sunday, August 31, 2014. Born to Charlie and Vlasta (Bartos) Simek, Alvin's life began on October 17, 1926 in Bomarton, Texas. After serving in the U.S. Army in 1946 and 1947, Alvin met the love of his life, Jeanette Reissig. They wed on September 30, 1953 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Slaton, Texas.
Alvin was a kind, loving family man who had a wonderful way of always making others feel special. He was quick-witted, full of jokes, and enjoyed making others smile and laugh. Because of this, Alvin never met a stranger and the friends he met as a letter carrier became like family. After retiring from the postal service, Alvin was able to spend more time enjoying the things he loved most. He took great pride in tending to his organic garden and loved sharing the fruit from his labor. But, if there was anything he enjoyed more than gardening, it was dancing! He and Jeanette could often be found dancing the night away at the Lubbock Senior Dance Club. Alvin and Jeanette served many years as board members there. Additionally, Alvin was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #3008, the VFW, and a lifetime member of the American Legion. Alvin was involved in many wonderful groups, but the most important of his involvements was his devotion and dedication to serving the Lord. For over 40 years, Alvin served as an usher for Christ the King Catholic Church of which he and Jeanette were founding members. Church members could always count on his smile and firm handshake to welcome them every Sunday.
Preceding him in death and now reunited with him in Heaven are his parents Charlie and Vlasta, and his sister, Evelyn Stengel. Those left to mourn him include his devoted wife of 60 years, Jeanette; sisters Estelle Heinrich of Slaton, Charline Gajdos of Riverside, Ca.; his children Barbara and Charles Shipman of Amarillo, Tx., Carl Simek of New Braunfels, Tx, Linda York of Lubbock, Marlene and John Hennessey of Victoria, Tx., Alan and Patricia Simek of Lubbock, Kathleen and Greg Kreth of Austin, Tx., eighteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.
Donations in Alvin’s memory may be made to Christ the King Cathedral , Meals on Wheels or a charity of your choice.
