

Anna Bautista Gomez, daughter, sister, mother, aunt, and “Nana” went home to her Lord and Savior on March 23, 2024, at the age of 88 years old. She was surrounded by her niece and 3 great-nieces in her home in Lubbock, Texas (Carlisle). Anna Bautista Gomez was born July 26, 1935, in Orange Grove, Texas to Faustino Gomez, Sr. and Hilaria Gomez.
Anna had a passion for learning. She successfully completed a work study program on “Social Work in the Barrio”, which was conducted by Continuing Education Program at the School of Social Work – University of Texas in Austin in July, 1975.
Anna Bautista Gomez was a dedicated parishioner, administrator, and spiritual leader to St. Theresa Catholic Church for 54 years finally retiring February 9, 2015. She was a faithful member of ‘The Guadalupanas” of St. Theresa Catholic Church and she was also a member of The San Juan Diego Fraternity.
Anna was commissioned for special ministry December 4, 1994, part of the first group of Commissioned Parish Ministers (CPMs) that trained alongside 25 deacon candidates, where she prepared for the ministry in just over two years. She assisted in the coordination of parish life including office work, food supplies, inventory, and supervised maintenance for St. Theresa’s Catholic Church. Her whole life was the church and she taught CCD and many other ministries in her time at St. Theresa. She was always so cheerful, dependable, and was a great mentor to many of the Deacons and Priests assigned to the parish and the people. Anna loved her faith and was quoted, “If you walk with Christ, you know where you’re going. It’s been a journey of faith because I couldn’t have done it any other way. I’ve had such a happy journey.”
Anna Bautista Gomez was survived by her son-Marlon Gomez, grandson-Roberto Gomez, and sisters Dixie Tamboro, Emilia Gomez, Gloria Moralez, and Elena Gomez. She was loved dearly and taken care of by her niece-Manda Moralez and 3 great-nieces-Maizie Lozano, Makenzie Lozano, and Maddox Lozano.
Anna’s favorite flowers were pink and white roses.
