Wow, I just found out about Annette's death today while I was searching for a scholarship for my daughter.  Annette and I worked closely together back in 2008-2011, while I was the advisor for Texas Tech University College of Education EC-6 program. She was a very loving and kind woman. Her whole life was about teaching kids and helping them become great teachers. She will be missed.

To the family  and friends of Dr. Annette Smith, I extend my condolences.. I am saddened to see this and now share in the sorrow, a celebration of life,  and reflection of memories.  Dr. Smith was my Academic Advisor and Teacher at South Plains College. Words cannot express how much of an impact she had on me.  She had taught me so much about the teaching profession and how to bring out the best in me as a student.  She shared her love of teaching to all of her students in the teaching program. She was tough but fair.  She would get angry if you didn't do what you were capable of doing. We all understood this was done so we all could reach our full potential.  I  will be forever grateful for all that she had done for me. I will always remember her guidance, mentorship, kindness, and generosity.

Facebook gave us "Arizona relatives" a chance to learn of Annette's warmth toward her large circle of friends, her accomplishments, her bravery and her strong faith. I wish condolences for your family during this sorrowful time. Annette was a beautiful person - so kind and full of warmth for all. I enjoyed my time working with her at SPJ and valued her grace, kindness and friendship.

Toni, Aaron....Our love and prayers go out to you both and the entire family.   Annette was  a wonderful person and cherished by all that knew her.

My deepest sympathies to Aaron and her mother, Toni. Annette was one of the best! She was a tireless teacher, leader, mentor and friend. A true inspiration for all the teachers who started their careers in Annette’s classes at South Plains; she was the bridge and cheerleader for her students who went on to finish their degrees at Texas Tech. She will never be forgotten by those of us who knew and loved her. Always in my heart.

She was a good person. I looked at her as a mother. I am so sorry Dr. Annette E. Smith. May God put piece over your mouther (Toni) and family. God put you on this Earth for a reason to teach future teachers. I am so depressed now?. I love you miss Smith. I hope whoever takes over your education program is just like you smart, careing, loveing to her students,  hardworking, and very decated to the education field. Furthermore, she was the person that made the education program, at South Plains College, what it is today. All of the teachers she taught are the best in Texas. She was the best teacher I had in my life. She and Toni taught me how to critically think, problem solved, and to grow up. I will always remember and love you. Thank you for the great memories.

Toni and Aaron....I am so sorry to hear of your loss.  Annette was truly a wonderful person who always  saw life in a positive manner with nevera cross word about anything.  She will be greatly missed.  I share your loss.

My love and prayers go to Aaron and Toni.  Annette's influence to countless people of the South Plains is monumental, and she will always be remembered as a tireless worker and amazing educator. Proud to say I had the privilege of being considered a friend and member of your extended family. The girls, Frank and I loved you dearly, and love Aaron. We will miss you terribly but are grateful that you are not suffering any longer. Your vibrance and enthusiasm in everything you did shined. I pray that your family finds peacele and comfort knowing just how loved and truly cherished you really were.

When I moved to Sundown in 1995, I was an 18 year old young woman.  One of the very first people I met was Annette, or shall I say “N.T.”.  It didn’t take long for her to scoop me up under her wing and for me to become uplifted with her words of praise, encouragement and wisdom.  Throughout the years we helped each other, as friends do.  We shared a common love for our fur babies.  She even rode with me to Lubbock to the emergency clinic one night to save one of my fur babies.  This was before I had children of my own.  When you don’t have children your fur babies assume the role.  Someone asked me today if Annette had children.  My reply was that Annette had many children.  She had many fur babies that she loved deeply. She also had many students and friends that she nurtured from the heart.  Several of these students went on to become teachers that have taught my son, for which I am very grateful.  Annette’s Legacy is a labor of love that will be passed on for all future generations to be blessed with.  Annette touched so many hearts, including mine.   I will never forget her.  She loved me with an unconditional love.  She had a heart of gold.  My prayers and condolences to all those left to cherish her memory.  She will be missed by many.  Aaron & Toni, Annette loved you so much and always spoke of you with so much love.
