

Born on August 8th of 1939 as the first child to Earl and Estelle Pickett, Betty graduated from Monahans High School in 1957 and married her high school sweetheart Danny Raymond Mason in June of 1958.
The couple moved to Beaumont, Texas while Danny completed his B.S. at Lamar University, then to Bryan/College Station for graduate school and coaching job. Their first child was born there before moving to Lubbock for a teaching and coaching job at Texas Tech where their daughter was born. A move to Fayetteville Arkansas for a terminal degree and coaching job saw the birth of their third child. Upon completion of studies, they moved back to Lubbock permanently for a teaching and coaching position in 1970. She worked as a homemaker, and in banking and bookkeeping at various banks and credit unions. A lifelong Baptist, she was a member of Melanie Park Church. Betty was involved in church activities from a very young age throughout her life. She sang in choirs, small ensembles and lead children’s choir at church as well as serving in various church initiatives from mission, outreach, hospitality, food and clothing drives and funding. Betty served briefly as elementary school monitor teacher for a private Christian school. She loved to travel with her husband and after he passed to Hawaii, Peru, Scotland in addition to travels to see children and grandchildren for important life events. She enjoyed card games and line dancing in later years.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her sister Inez Murrell. She is survived by children Rodney Mason of Lake Jackson, Michele Henderson and husband Burt of Oklahoma, Kent Mason and wife Stephanie of Lubbock; brother Wayne Pickett and wife Ruth of Lubbock; grandchildren Joshua Southerland and wife Dami, Ashley Evans, Rachal Southerland, Brenden Mason, Braden Mason, Sloane Enninga and great grandchildren Colsyn and Paxsyn Evans, and Lila Weaver with many nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Betty will be held Monday, February 27, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Resthaven Funeral Home, 5740 West 19th St, Lubbock, TX. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Melody Park Church, 6602 Indiana Ave, Lubbock, TX 79413. A graveside will occur Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Resthaven Cemetery, 5740 West 19th St, Lubbock, TX.
