

Bobby Clifton Baggett, age 75, retired owner and president of Baggett Company Inc. Agricultural Chemicals, died at Premier Transitional Care in Dallas, Texas, on Tuesday, August 21, 2012, following a short battle with cancer.
He was born January 27, 1937, in Electra, Texas, to the late Clifton Brewer Baggett and the late Ruby Juanita Shelly. Bobby graduated from Levelland High School and he served in the United States Marine Corps Reserves from 1955 to 1959. In 1955 he was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Gresham of Levelland, Texas.
Mr. Baggett began his career in the agriculture chemicals industry in 1956 when he acquired a crop dusting business and was the founder and co-owner of Baggett – Atchison Fertilizer in Levelland and Whitharrel, Texas. In 1960 he began a 10 year career with W.R. Grace & Co., where he developed and managed sales and distribution operations throughout the Mid-west. In 1972 he retired from W.R. Grace as General Manager of Western Operations. He developed many close life-long friends at W.R. Grace where he was affectionately known as “The General” by his colleagues.
Mr. Baggett established several other businesses over the years including Baggett Company Inc. Agricultural Chemicals (“BCI”) and Baggett Cattle Company. Until his retirement in 2005, BCI served the farming and ranching industry throughout West Texas, Oklahoma and Eastern New Mexico including some of the largest ranching and farming operations in Texas.
Bobby was an avid sports fan, coached little-league football and baseball and served as President of the Levelland Booster Club in 1975-1976. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lubbock, Texas, served on the board of directors of the Texas Plant Food Institute, and held a Texas Real Estate Broker's License. In 2008 Bobby moved to the Conservatory Retirement Community in Plano, Texas, to retire and be closer to his family.
Bobby is survived by his two sons and their wives, Bobby Joe and Mellie Baggett of Plano, TX; and Clif and Kathy Baggett of Austin, TX; five granddaughters, Brooklyn, Emily, Claire, Lauren and Avery Bella Baggett; his brother Ken (Paula) Baggett, Odessa, TX, and three sisters, Yvonne (Frank) Parks, Cloudcroft, NM, Janice (Don) Owen, Houston, TX, and Gay (Jim) Hondrich, Pampa, TX. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He is preceded by his parents and his beloved wife, Shirley.
A graveside service for Bobby C. Baggett will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 25, at the Resthaven Memorial Park at 5740 W. 19th Street, Lubbock, TX. Officiating will be Rev. John Ballard. There will be a visitation from 9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the Resthaven Funeral Home at the same location. Friends and relatives are invited to attend a reception and buffet luncheon at the Lubbock Country Club immediately after the service (located at 3400 Mesa Road, Lubbock, TX 79403, tel. 806-762-0414, approx. 10 minutes from Resthaven).
