

Bryan C. Rudy, CMDR USN Ret., passed away Monday July 21, 2014 in Lubbock. He was born Dec. 10, 1928 in Echo, MN to Theoren and Verneda Rudy . They moved to St Paul MN where he graduated from high School and the University of Minnesota. He joined the Navy and earned his Navy Wings in 1950. He had his first combat tour to Korea as a Fighter Pilot aboard the USS Leyte. Brian later made a later combat tour to Vietnam aboard the USS Bon Homme Richard as well as two more as Air Boss on the USS Oriskany. All told he flew 21 different aircraft accumulating 4800 flight hours and 450 carrier landings. He was awarded the Bronze Star, three Air Medals, Navy Commendation Medal with Combat and others. He retired on July 31, 1970 as Commander, USN, and went directly into law school at the University of Texas. He received his Doctor of Jurisprudence in December 1972. He practiced law with Terry Weeks and Mark Levborg in Austin, TX until he was appointed Juvenile Court Judge and Assoc. District Court Judge in 1979 where he served until retirement in 1991.
He is survived by children, grandchildren and numerous other loving family members.
Visitation will be Wednesday July 23, 2014 in Resthaven Funeral Home from 7 to 8 pm. Funeral services will be Thursday July 24 at 10:00 am in Gloria Dei Lutheran Church followed by burial at Resthaven Memorial Park with Military Honors.
In keeping with Mr. Rudy’s final wishes the family ask that all forms of condolences be offered in the form of gratitude for the life Mr. Rudy lived and not in loss of his passing. They wish not to mourn his passing but celebrate that he lived.
