Coolidge M. Graves, age 88, passed away on September 9, 2012, at his home in Lubbock, Texas. Coolidge was born December 6, 1923 in Lubbock, Texas to James and Mary Graves. He attended Lubbock High School.
Coolidge volunteered for the Marine Corps when war was declared the day after he turned 18. He served in the South Pacific with the Marine Raiders until he was injured in the Battle for Saipan. During WWII, he earned the Bronze Star and Purple Heart for his service in action. Coolidge married Nola Hale June 1, 1947. He was a fan of baseball and pitched for the Lubbock Hubbers before WWII. He was a salesman until he retired—and master storyteller long after that. Coolidge often told stories of riding mules around Lubbock in his youth and exploits of his brother Marines during the war.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Nola; son, Chuck and wife Jolene; son, Don and wife Linda; and grandchildren, Stephanie, Trae, Michael, David, Marcia, and Teresa.
Visitation will be Thursday, September 13, 2012 at 10 a.m. with graveside services to follow at 11 a.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home.
